Press Release for Subcon 2000 NEC, 10 - 13th April 2000

10 February 2000

The Doherty Group will be re-inventing itself for Subcon 2000 and beyond. For the first time the four engineering companies in the Group will be presenting themselves under one banner - "The Doherty Group, your solution for precision engineered components".

The Doherty Group now boasts a manufacturing facility in Hungary, which is currently producing at a rate of 2.5 million armature shafts per annum for Bosch/Siemens in Slovakia. Doherty Hungary Kft. Started trading in Nov.1998, the sales projections are well ahead of target and the factory is full. Plans to double the size of the factory in the next 18 months are underway.

Back in the UK, W.H.Doherty & Co.Ltd, based in Solihull, have started an aggressive programme of renewing their machine tools to keep ahead of the productivity demands in the precision turned part market place. £1 million has been earmarked for new investment over the next 2 to 3 years. These investments will be mainly in the area of CNC turning and centreless grinding equipment, which will add a greater degree of flexibility and efficiency in the manufacture of our precision turned parts.

N&J Engineering has recently moved to Solihull and new premises where it has new offices and an additional 30% warehouse space. N&J buy precision components, which includes: pressings; castings; springs; sintered parts; cold formed parts and precision turned parts from all over the world, stock and then deliver to customers throughout the UK. Most deliveries are on a Kanban or JIT basis with multiple deliveries per week. The extra space and improved systems at its new site allow for the customer's logistical challenges and variety of component needs to be smoothly executed.

The three UK companies achieved QS9000 status in September 1999 and are now building on the opportunities that that has created. Doherty Hungary Kft achieved ISO9000 status in October 1999. All four companies have new leaders and The Group are now presenting a new image/brand that will be launched at the Subcon show.

Combine the manufacturing expertise of WHD (est.1934) with the low cost manufacturing of DHKft, the large portfolio of precision components and services offered by N&J and the quick turnaround batch grinding experience of Belgrave Grinding and we genuinely have a group of companies that is "your solution for precision engineered components".
